Shower drains easily become clogged with a combination of hair, soap scum and whatever else sloughs off human bodies into the drain. Clearing the drains is then required. And so, each time you have to spend the huge money in hiring the plumbers. But the fact is, dealing with the clogged drains is simple and can be carried over even by an untrained man.
Auger is basically a plumbing tool that is used to unclog the drains easily. Homeowners that do not posses the auger can follow the steps below to make their drains clear and free from all kinds of build- ups.
Remove the trap from the drain. Usually, the trap is secured with the help of two screws, just unfasten them. If there are none, use a pair of pliers, preferably long nosed ones. Catch the holes in the drain and lift it aside.
Let some water to fill in the shower drain. Exerting more force, plunge into the drain using a plunger. Do the same several times. For less severe blockage, plunger is more than sufficient.
For drain that’s completely blocked, you can also use the garden hose. Place the garden hose into the drain in such a way that it totally stops the drain. Wad up a small towel and hold tightly around the hole and against the drain opening. Turn on the hose with full force.
This will surely unplug your shower drain. Moreover, you can now clean up all the mess in and around the drains. If left there itself, there are chances that they may further clog the drains. Also, put the strainer back to its place. After you screw the trap back on, run water through the drain to make sure the clog has been removed.
If the clog still persists, arrange an auger from your neighborhood or buy it from the nearby market. These work more efficiently in unclogging the drains. For more complications, it is the time to take the plumber’s aid.
